Following a few more quiet years of uncertainty, Voïvod released Infinity as their second and final album utilizing fallen guitarist Piggy’s privately recorded and composed material that he left to the band upon his passing. While this album has its moments, I prefer Katorz with its Glenn Robinson signature production vibes and Away’s undeniable interludes, going a long way to set that Morgoth vibe. This time around around, the band left much of of the post-production assembly to Jason Newsted and while the album sounds pretty good overall, it lacks some of that ominous Voïvod interstellar dread that I crave so much. It’s a solid tribute and I find it difficult to nitpick on an album that I am privileged to place on my turntable, so I’ll leave it at that.
2009 US pressing on Relapse Records. Solid press. Chapter closed.
