Astralmoonbeamprojections was released in 1997 and I had may have purchased this in CD at the following year as Amp was one of the psychedelic, lo-fi, ambient type acts I was obsessing over in the late 1990s. This particular record always struck me as unique and way more psych than most of Amp’s other releases. Drenched in echoing reverb, the album feels like it was recorded in a massive underground cave, yet there is still enough clarity in the recording that it doesn’t feel muddled. Certainly one of my favorite releases from this time in my life and still a solid listen all these years later… more so, in fact.
Original 1997 US pressing on Kranky. I love that the label released albums on both CD and LP at a time when vinyl was largely dead in the US. Only recently stumbled across this copy and could not be happier.
