Club Ninja, released in the UK and Europe at the tail end of 1985 didn’t really hit the states until 1986. From the cover (and all the guest musicians), you can already tell things are a bit goofy, and while that take isn’t wrong, the overall the album is alright… just nothing earth shaking. There is plenty of deep Blue Öyster Cult sounds present and between Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma Roeser, the guitar and vocals part of the band is fully intact. I suppose the songs are just not quite as strong, but the album is simply good. Happy to have it and maybe I’ll connect with it more next time I give it a spin.
1986 US pressing on Columbia.
