Edge Of Sanity - Crimson II (2003)

In the wake of Edge Of Sanity’s brilliant 1996 epic Crimson, the creative forces in the band found themselves in opposition of what direction the band should take. Dan Swanö wanted to continue on the progressive death metal path he had been pursuing, while Andreas Axelsson wanted to return to the band’s melodic, but more straight forward death metal roots. Ultimately Swanö departed and the band released the poorly received Cryptic album in 1997, eventually splitting up altogether in 1999. Swanö brought back the Edge Of Sanity moniker one last time for the release of his progressive metal epic Crimson II, which is essentially the conclusion to the first Crimson album and equally as excellent, if not a bit better than its predecessor. Swanö’s work in the mid 90s and early 2000s mostly aligns with Opeth’s work at the same time and I would strongly recommend this album, or any Edge Of Sanity to Opeth or any serious prog metal fans.

2025 German pressing on Century Media and it’s ridiculously good. All these Swanö 2025 remaster on Century Media are pure audio gold.
