As I’m putting this on the turntable I can’t help but think of what a bold choice it is to have Herbie Hancock score an urban vigilante type move when studio execs probably would have went for a traditional score. But hot damn this album is suspenseful, moody and dark at times, with killer jazz and funky groove breaks, some pastoral passages & contemplative moments. I haven’t watched the film Death Wish in a while, but spinning this today has me thinking it’s time. Great album.
1974 US first pressing on Columbia. I landed this about a week ago at a local shop and finally got a chance to give it a listen. So nice!
