Razor - Custom Killing (1987)

Custom Killing feels like a bit of a placeholder record… or maybe just the band hitting a temporary plateau before bursting forth towards the greatness of Violent Restitution. I recall reading an article somewhere with Dave Carlo saying drummer Mike Embro’s playing got worse over time, and this being his last album with the band makes me wonder if that’s a big part of the dip here. I say these things, but honestly the album is fucking great! Maybe not as precise or volatile as prior or future efforts, but I do love it.

2015 European reissue on High Roller Records and it’s a beautiful thing.
