Arise is not an unknown album and in fact was a major part of Sepultura’s emergence as a major player in the thrash/post-thrash metal, early death metal movement. The band never really stays in the same space for very long and evolve a lot, popularity be damned. Still, Arise is still a fan favorite and a crucial milestone in the thrash movement during the emergence of the death metal scene. Did I just write the same thing twice? Solid, solid fucking album.
2018 expanded US reissue on Roadrunner Records and it’s awesome. This 2xLP release includes an entire second LP of bonus cuts and while the remix of “Dead Embryonic Cells” objectively sucks, overall it’s pretty much excellent.
