Atomic Rooster (1980)

After several years of inactivity Atomic Rooster re-emerges in 1980 with John Du Cann back on guitar and vocals with Crane and temporary drummer Preston Heyman. Embarrassingly, this is the first time I’ve ever listen to this album despite owning it for nearly 20 years or so. I just didn’t feel drawn to it, but Du Cann’s participation has me particularly fascinated today. It doesn’t sound like Death Walks Behind You or anything from that classic early era, but it is surprising me in the sense that Du Can and Crane appear to have been influenced by the UK punk and metal sounds at the time and this record reflects that influence a good deal. Still taking it in, but damn.

Edit: this record low key fucking smokes. Unexpected recommendation, right here!

1980 UK pressing on EMI. This remains the latest Atomic Rooster LP that I own, but thinking I need to pick up the band’s follow up (and last ever album) titled Headline News one of these days.
