The House Of Blue Light is the second album of Deep Purple’s classic MkII lineup following their early 1980s reformation. I’ve low key avoided this one over the years as I’ve always heard that it sucks and only recently picked it up on the cheap (and mint). I suppose what I had imagined in my head was worse because this doesn’t seem as bad as I was anticipating. Oh, it’s not very inspired and reeks of the typical production aesthetics that music producers were snorting up circa 1987 but if only the songwriting was better, this could have been alright. Such a vital set of musicians here. Gillan would split again after this release.
1987 Canadian pressing on Polydor.
