Michael Hoenig has mainly been familiar to me as a one time driving force of krautrock legends Agitation Free and honestly I hadn’t really followed what he was up to after the demise of that group. That was a mistake on my part. After a brief stint with Tangerine Dream as a replacement for Peter Baumann, Hoenig put together Departure From The Northern Wasteland and it reveals a much deeper musical connection to Tangerine Dream than I would have expected. Absolutely superb progressive electronic album in the realm of Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze.
1987 German reissue from Kuckuck. I recently came across three different used copies of this all at once at a shop in San Jose, California this week but didn’t even realize they were the same album but with a different cover from this reissue. Ah, whatever. I dig this version plenty.
