Well, it’s been a number of years since Opeth had released a proper studio album and this is a refreshing return. Not only is the album strong, but the compositions are varied, layered, and beautifully crafted. It’s also a concept album overall, but I will not attempt to crack that nut here at the moment, haha. On top of already being excellent, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has brought back his much celebrated death growl vocals and it adds a certain kick to the music that is decidedly Opeth perfection.
2024 European first pressing and well, it sounds fucking great.
