Smile is a 2008 album by Boris and probably one of their better known releases (their discography is massive), and certainly an album I’ve been with since its release. The US pressing has a different track order than the Japanese edition, so it’s interesting to hear how their are geared for the differing demographics. The Japanese version is order with a slow buildup with short/fast bursts throughout while the US version has the fast songs front-loaded to hit you hard at first, then lull you in with the psych and drone. Both are valid and I’m just talking to a lampshade, hah.
2008 US pressing on Southern Lord. Found this on my first ever visit to the Amoeba Music in Berkeley, California with my good friend and record shopping conspirator who reasoned with me that we should take the chance to hit the last of the three Amoeba shops that we’d never been to before. We had a great time and landed good tunes.
