Jan Garberek | Bobo Stenson | Terje Rypdal | Arild Anderson | Jon Christensen - Sart (1971)

Sart is Jan Garbarek’s third album and while he has assembled some top notch players here, some of whom have writing credits on the album, Garbarek’s saxophone is the centerpiece of the album. While this album is entirely in its own space, I might reference electric Miles Davis with a more European avant-garde jazz/fusion sound. The album weaves through moments of hazy reflection, explosive peaks, unsettling experimentation, and overall killer playing. While maybe not for everyone, this album is definitely for me. Absolutely badass.

Early 1970s German repress on ECM Records. A bit rough around the edges, but plays like a dream.
