Seems like the Dark Sides comp would have been a more fitting spin coming off of Halloween, but seeing as I down own that one yet, I found myself spinning King Diamond’s next proper LP, Conspiracy and am reminded at how fantastic this particular album actually is. King Diamond and LaRoque seemed to have hit on a great balance of theatrics and sharp compositions that feel a bit tighter and less meandering, though I would hardly use that to describe most KD tunes. It seems Mikkey Dee was on his way out, yet still delivers a strong performance for the entire album as a session drummer. Judas Priest’s KK Downing guests on the track “Something Weird” as well. Great record.
2020 US/EU pressing on Metal Blade Records.
