Calm Before The Storm is the first Venom album to not feature the band’s classic power trio lineup with Mantas taking leave of the band to be replaced by two guitarists, Mike Hickey and Jimmy Clare. While the band still largely sounds like classic Venom, the cheese factor is a bit much here. Still loud and obnoxious, but not dark, ominous, or epic. Overall, there’s a lot worse out there, but I’m glad I didn’t pick this up back in the 80s as it probably would have pissed me off. Nowadays, I’m alright with it.
2020 UK/EU pressing from Back On Black. Nothing fancy, but a perfectly good reissue.
