As can be surmised from the title, Nordland I & II is a collection featuring both parts of the Nordland concept that Quarthon kicked off in 2002. For me, this is largely my first spin of the Nordland albums as I’ve only ever paid much attention to early Bathory until recently. What taken me aback is how well developed these two progressive Viking metal albums actually are. Stunning, really . Quarthon surely would have had some fascinating works left in him had he not passed away in 2004.
