Here it is, Cold Lake! After all these years, I am still scratching my head as to why this actually happened. I had heard Celtic Frost split up in early 1988 following their tour for the Into The Pandemonium album and was surprised to see an add in a metal magazine for the forthcoming coming Cold Lake, though it only showed the front cover and release date, so I had no idea of the drastic change until I saw it in the store. One look at the picture on the back cover and I was super bummed. I did eventually pick up this copy for 99¢ and my stance has softened on it a good deal. It’s certainly the worst thing Celtic Frost ever released, but overall, it’s an alright and substantially heavy glam metal record. Going back to the “why” of this record, I have some insights and a theory, but nothing I want to get into here. Recommended only if you explored all other CF albums and are still curious.
1989 US pressing from Noise Records. I don’t think this record has had a lot of action, so plays perfectly. It was never reissued past the initial pressings and has become somewhat valuable as a result. Much closer to $99 vs. the 99¢ I paid for it.
