Celtic Frost - Emperor’s Return (1985)

Emperor’s Return was the very first Celtic Frost release that I had picked up (on cassette) after hearing “Dethroned Emperor” on the radio. For an EP, it pack one hell of a punch! The original European Morbid Tales release for some reason did not include the songs “Morbid Tales” or “Dethroned Emperor” and this had those tracks. It also featured three brand new songs with new drummer Reed St. Mark, including an early recording of the epic “Circle Of The Tyrants” and holy shit, 15yo me was blown away. I later learned that these new cuts were demos meant as a proof of concept for the band’s next album but were mixed and used by Noise Records without the band’s consent.

1985 US pressing from Metal Blade Records/Enigma. I bought this used around 1986 or so and held on to the original cassette for ages until selling it off a few years ago on Discogs (with all my other cassette tapes). This record though… sounds fucking awesome.
