Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales (1984)

I first heard Celtic Frost on the radio back in early 1985 through a college station called KCMU that had a show called “Rock And A Hard Place” (later renamed “Brain Pain”) hosted by local metal champion Jeff Gilbert. The show was on Sunday nights and I used to listen an record it to learn about new bands. One night they played “Dethroned Emperor” from this album and I was absolutely floored. I had never heard of this band before that and I was instantly hooked. I literally turned on my whole friend group to CF and personally promoted them to anyone that would listen until Cold Lake came out in 1988, which was devastating at the time. Morbid Tales remains one of my top five metal albums of all time.

1985 US pressing on Metal Blade Records/Enigma. I bought this brand new at a place called Fallout Records in Seattle, along with the first Kreator LP back when I’d take the bus into the city to get record because I didn’t have my drivers license yet. I was fortunate enough to have it signed by Tom Warrior and Martin Ain back in 2006 (Tom signed my poster and Martin the front cover).
