To Mega Therion is an immensely important album that reflected the less common avant-garde and gothic influences in the (at the time) thrash metal movement. The band were going through some traumatic stuff at the time, which is why Martin Ain does not play on this LP, but Tom really pulled off some amazing stuff with this album! It both pushes everything metal into uncharted territory and is also engaging and fascinating. Masterpiece? Yes. Note the start of an everlasting relationship with artist HR Geiger, which was already in the works but ultimately starts here and will have a massive effect on Tom’s trajectory. So good!
1986 US pressing from Combat/Noise Records and it’s fucking epic.
