Before joining Hawkwind, Lemmy had already been in bands that had published albums. In the mid-60s, he played guitar in a band called the Rockin’ Vicars, and after that he joined Sam Gopal’s band. Gopal was a tabla player from Malaysia that had moved to London and became part of the music scene there. In its face, this band is actually really fucking cool as it’s psychedelic rock played without a fu drum kit, but instead tabla and other percussive instruments, giving it a very chill, but still kind of dark vibe overall. While this is Gopal’s band, Lemmy literally sings, plays guitar, and had a hand in writing every single song on this album that is not a cover. Let me tell you, the writing style reflects Lemmy all the way… music, composition, lyrics, and of course that unmistakable voice. For Hawkwind and especially Motörhead fans, this is some serious treasure! Fantastic album, all the way.
2017 UK reissue on Morgan Blue Town. Lovely pressing, package, a cam with a 7-inch to boot. Very cool.
