Here Lies Venom contains Venom’s fist three albums, with seven non-LP bonus tracks and the American Assault picture disc EP. It allegedly also contained a small parchment of dirt labeled as the band’s “earthly remains”, but that was not included in this used copy I picked up some time in the late 1980s. At the time, all these bonus tracks would have meant hunting down import only singles, so at the time it was huuuge for me to land this box set. Looking at it now, they probably overpacked the LPs (which are very thin), but somehow it all sounds pretty fucking good.
I don’t know why I still listen to Venom these days, full well knowing how corny they were by the time I was 15. I still love everything from that original lineup.
1985 US pressing on Combat Records. I paid $25 for this at a place called Rubato Records in Bellevue, WA back in the late 1980s. It took a me week to muster the $25 (I was always broke) and I was afraid someone else would get it before I could. Luckily it all worked out and here I am giving it a spin some 38 years later. Not sure what that says about me, actually. Hah!
