Bad Brains kicking things off back in 1979 with the 7-inch for “Pay To Cum” and the “Stay Close To Me” b-side. I had the Roir Sessions material already by the time I came across this single and was blown away at how different this versions sounds. Earl’s got some crazy cowbell thing going on during “Pay To Cum” and well… “Stay Close To Me” is a really cool reggae type track, but more upbeat and short vs. some of what the band would put out later. Plus, at the time, that track was a mystery to me as it hadn’t (in 1990 or so) been relased on anything else.
1989 unofficial US pressing without any record label noted. White labels on the 7-inch. I should probably buy the more recent official reissue from the band, but I’ve had this since 1990 and have always loved it.
