Richard Pinhas - Chronolyse (1978)

Chronolyse is Richard Pinhas’ second album released under his own name (not Heldon) and it’s another insanely good slab of progressive electronic music served up in a way that is unlike anything else. I feel like I lack the words to properly convey the way this music sounds and feels. Think of a space somewhere between Tangerine Dream from around the same time, with heavy Robert Fripp influences (Pinhas is massively influenced by Fripp), and finally, the shadow of the French progressive rock scene which was primarily dominated by Magma and the zeuhl sound that they had pioneered… yet this is not zeuhl in any way. Anyway, I’m gonna stare at the wall now.

2015 US reissue from Cuneiform Records and it’s quite nice.
