King Crimson’s The Construkction Of Light was originally released in 2000 and could be one of the most dunked on albums by KC..it’s often referred to as the band’s worst album and I admit that I did not connect to the CD when I bought it all those years ago. Fast forward nearly two decades and the band released an updated, partially re-recorded and remixed version of the album, christened The Reconstrukction Of Light. Surprisingly, this redux is quite successful. Gone are the digitally painful v-drums, replaced with a newly recoded drums and the mix is much much better. Not everything is awesome with this one, but I’d say I listen to this version quite a bit while I haven’t played the original at all, except to compare at times. This quartet version of KC feels transitionary, and while the band is onto some cool shit, there are also some stinkers… yes “Prozac Blues” is the biggest miss on the album, and it’s the opener. Still, glad this second pass resulted in a notable improvement. Even less successful works by KC have a lot to offer, this included.
2019 US/UK/EU pressing from Discipline Global Mobile, Panegyric, Inner Knot. Incredible release.
