This is another of the Pyramid Records releases in the 1990s that allegedly contained lost recordings from the 1970s that were recorded and collected by engineer Toby Robinson, who worked at Dieter Dierks’ studio for some years in the 1970s. Given Dierks’ history of releasing material without artist consent (see Cosmic Jokers), it’s not all that hard to imagine there are hours and hours of material from these heady days laying around. This particular release was recorded in 1975-76 and leans heavy into dark drone sounds, almost proto-doom and drone vibes aka Lustmord or Sunn 0))), yet loosely themed around Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Musician credits include Frodo, Pippin, and Gandolf, hah. Worth checking out, for sure.
2018 vinyl release from Mental Experience/Pyramid and it sounds fantastic.
