Let it be known that I am a huge fan of early Wire and also of their 2003 (and beyond) comeback, which continues to produce interesting and sometimes challenging music to this day. I have largely struggled with the band’s late 80s and 1990s eras as it’s a bit of departure and I generally have a hard time getting my head around what the band was going for. I could be having a breakthrough with Manacape right now now as it’s sort of fascinating, despite being an absolute departure of the sound that I love so much. Feels stripped down, a shade of industrial influences, but uniquely Wire and definitely a little weird. I think I’ve opened a door here.
1990 UK pressing from Mute and it’s quite nice.
