Bitter End - Harsh Realities (1990)

Bitter End were/are a Seattle metal band, sort of rooted in thrash hard to call this straight up thrash metal. By 1990, a number of thrash bands, particularly those that hadn’t quite broke yet, seemed to be concerned about the longevity of the sub-genre and were looking to stand out. Groove and funk incorporated with metal seemed to be a thing at the time and that is where Bitter End headed. The riffs are decent, but the tunes are generally luke warm. Produced by Scott Burns, the albums sounds good and is generally alright, it’s just sort of pedestrian overall. Cover art is shit too, so I’m sure that didn’t help them at all. Maybe it sounds like I’m shitting on this record, but it’s not so bad. Worth a listen if you’re interested in the last days of Seattle metal before the grunge scene explodes.

2022 US reissue from M-Theory Audio/Metal Blade Records.
