Re-Traced is simply a remix EP, but as it’s Cynic, one can bet that it’d be a little more interesting that the typical remix release project, and I’d say that take hold for this. The intention from the band was to highlight aspects of the bands sound that were previously (in 2010) more latent, non-metal focused bits and gentle passages, and in that regard it hits the mark. This vinyl reissue also includes some bonus tracks that highlight the excellent interplay between bassist Sean Malone and drummer Sean Reinhardt (RIP to both of these excellent musicians). Maybe not crucial for some folk, but if you’re into Cynic as I am, this is a great get.
2025 Finnish reissue from Svart Records and it’s really quite excellent.
