Gamma was an act out together by Ronnie Montrose and singer Davey Pattinson and seems to go for a more radio friendly sound that Montrose (the band) did in the years prior. I bought this album ages ago due to the cool looking cover art, but also recall not really getting into the music, hah. Having just picked up Gamma 2, again for the artwork), I’ve decided to give Gamma 1 another pass and it’s alright. Definitely has that early 80s hard rock radio /AOR sound going on, but I do like Ronnie Montrose’s playing and Pattinson is an alright vocalist… nothing to write home about, but doesn’t suck either. Some good jams here with “Solar Heat” and “Ready For Action” checking off all the good shit as side B kicks off.
