I’ve somehow never really checked into XTC before despite being a big fan of their psychedelic alter ego project The Dukes Of Stratosfear since the 1980s. I guess I thought them a typical pop act or something? Honestly, I don’t even remember what I thought, but making up for that now. Go 2 is the band’s second LP and I’m still now sure how to describe them? Post-punk, edgy Brit pop, new wave? Definitely feels a little of these plus subtle psych and prog vibes present. Still kind of taking it in, but I dig what I hear. Maybe not the most striking album cover by Hipgnosis but also so very Storm Thorgerson.
1978 New Zealand pressing on Elektra. Picked this up at a cool shop called Real Groovy in Auckland a couple of days ago and it’s great.
