The Yes Album is the band’s first studio album with guitarist Steve Howe and the band’s third album overall. It would also be the last with organist and keyboard player Tony Kaye as the band wanted to move into a more symphonic prog sound that ventured into the new sounds of the analog synth sounds that were exploding in the early 70s. Kaye.was a great player, but was more of of a swirling organ and not keen on abandoning his sound at the time, leading to an eventual split. The album is actually quite fantastic as it bridges the band’s early sound towards the direction they eventually hit with Fragile a year later.,Hoestly, they could have probably carved out an accomplished career from vibe on this record, but that’s just because it’s so solid… Yes carved their own path. Masterpiece of an album.
1977 US repress from Atlantic Records. LP is a bit thinner than earlier pressings, but sound is great. Had this particular copy since high school, at least.
