Ash Ra Tempel was founded by guitarist Manuel Göttsching in 1970 and has included a number of guest musicians throughout the 1970s, but also worth noting that Klaus Schulze had periods in the band as their drummer. Schulze plays all drums on this record and itmis among his first performances released since his departure from Tangerine Dream. The band’s self titled debut is a wild space rock freakout featuring one song per side and it’s a beautiful ride when you’re in the mood for something like this… or really high, or both. Important krautrock album and it’s a fantastic spin.
2023 German “50th anniversary edition” reissue on Manuel Göttsching‘s own label, MG.ART. This release features an intricate replica of the original Ohr die-cut jacket, with nice inserts, a history of the band, etc. Sounds amazing as well.
