Death - Spiritual Healing (1990)

Spiritual Healing is Death’s third album and this one somehow has creeped through to become one of, if not my absolute favorite from the band. Chuck Shuldiner is about to take the band full on into progressive technical death metal, and this version of the band is on the precipice of that evolution despite this vibing more as a death metal album than anything else. The songcraft is absolutely incredible and the band is completely on fire. This is also the album that made me really appreciate Scott Burns’ production style which always seemed generic and flat to me until I landed this OG pressing, which is dynamic as fuck.

1990 US gold stamp promo pressing which seems to have belonged to a radio station from Tacoma, WA with the call sign KUPS. It’s still on the label (see pic below) but was also written all over the cover in permanent marker when I got it. Someone in a music group I used to be in shared a trick using dry erase markers to remove permanent marker and in this case, it worked.
