Ok, Playing The Fool is Gentle Giant’s first live album and it’s nothing short of phenomenal. The band run through live version of tunes and some adventurous alternate renditions from their already rich discography to date and they are absolutely on fire as a live band. The production here is also outstanding, making this one of the best sounding live albums I’ve heard in ages. In some way, I like the sound here even more than the studio album versions and that is not a statement I am inclined to make very often. Fucking fantastic.
1977 US pressing on Capitol Records and it’s a gem.
