Maggot Heart is the solo effort of Linnéa Olsson, founded soon after the split of the propped up, but still interesting act call The Oath. After that band’s singular album, both Olsson and singer Johanna Sadonis spit off into different solo efforts. Sadonis seemed to have more label support with her band Lucifer, while Olsson seemed to have been pushed out to do it on her own. And honestly… I think Maggot Heart is way more interesting than Lucifer. Olsson’s guitar playing is angular, heavy as fuck, and feels like a cross between Danzig’s John Christ and Piggy from Voïvod. Pretty cool shit. Song craft is top shelf with the only potential weakness being Linnéa’s vocals, but they work in a punk rock kind of way, for the most part. Killer debut EP.
2017 2nd German pressing on Olsson’s own Teratology Sound & Vision label. Found this at Moondog Records in Las Vegas a few years back and it’s a fucking gem.
