Ohhh… so this album hurts a little. Tygers Of Pan Tang seemed to be one of the strongest contenders for success out of the NWOBHM in the early 80s, even tweaking their lineup to perfection to create Spellbound and even Crazy Nights, but it all took an immediate and drastic dip once guitarist John Sykes left to join Whitesnake. The band recruited guitarist Fred Purser and he was most definitely not up to the task. The band’s decision to lean into a more radio friendly LA sound did not help things at all and as much as it pains me to say, this album isn’t all that good. Shout out to vocalist John Deverill though as he had all of the qualities to make for a massively successful 1980s metal frontman… the voice, the look, the swagger. Dude should have been huge and his vocals are one of strongest elements of this album.
1982 US pressing on MCA Records. Landed this while up in Ottawa recently and it’s in great condition.
