Bad Brains - Quickness (1989)

Bad Brains has taken a harder edge with Quickness, incorporating metallic elements into their sound while maintaining their core sound. Again working with producer Ron St. German, this is a solid outing for the band, still riding a hot streak of popularity since I Against I. Although drummer Earl Hudson is still featured on the album cover, all drums here were performed by original Cro-Mags drummer Mackie Jayson.

1989 US pressing on Caroline Records. Recent reissues have omitted the song “Don’t Blow Bubbles” due to some unfortunate lyrics disparaging gay folk. Glad the band has evolved a bit in this regard, but I prefer to have the original unabridged album, offensive bits and all. For me it’s art over product and politics,
